Getting Involved

Located on the west side of Los Angeles in close proximity to the University of California at Los Angeles and Santa Monica College, the congregation here at the First Baptist Church of West Los Angeles is comprised of people who come from places all over the world. There are lots of activities and ministry opportunities here that may be of interest to you. Here's a brief description of what's available.

ALPHA
Have questions about God? Want to find out what Christianity is all about while enjoying good company and eating great food? Try Alpha! Got Kids? Check out AWANA! AWANA is a program for children. The two programs run concurrently so both you and your children can learn and grow together. AWANA
AWANA is a children’s program whose goal is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and to train them up to serve the Lord. AWANA stands for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed.” This program provides a wholesome environment for children that is filled with games and spiritual challenges- all designed to write God’s Word on each child's heart through workbooks and Scripture memorization. CAREERS
Here's a group for single (mostly) post-college, quarter-life, Hi-Ho it's off to work we go, still-figuring-things-out folks. Careers meets Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to about 8:45 P.M. for good Bible study, conversation, discussion, fellowship, and refreshments. FUSION
Fusion is a wonderful, dynamically growing youth group for junior and senior high school students. The program offers lots of activities, good discussions, and snacks a plenty. HOMELESS Ministry
Have Saturday mornings off? Do you have a desire to serve others? Join the homeless ministry team in caring for the physical and spiritual needs of the homeless on Saturday mornings from 9:30AM-12:30PM.

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)
Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is a ministry to women and their families that aims to nurture moms by meeting their distinct needs to the glory of Jesus Christ. MOPS of FBCWLA meets the first and third Friday of the month throughout the school year from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Childcare is provided.

Small Groups Fellowship
There are many people in the congregation who share common ministry as well as other interests who form small groups that meet in private homes once or twice a month in addition to attending regular Sunday morming worship services. These groups offer a great opportunity for folks to make new friends, comfort one another, and just enjoy one another's company.

WLAB School
WLAB School is a Junior/Senior High School located at 1609 S. Barrington Avenue, in West Los Angeles, Ca. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is operated in association with the First Baptist Church of West Los Angeles.
